For More Information:
One-United, Inc. was founded following
Sept. 11, 2001 to support the families of heroes in this tragedy.
Initially, New York turned down our offered care packages because of
the sheer volume of things they received. But after reviewing the
initial CD and letter, they requested hundreds of them and
awarded One United Charity a New York Fire Department Special
Commendation Award and special thanks. The materials have
been used on major national TV and radio stations and used in schools
in several states. One One-United continues to support heroes'
families. Below is the letter currently sent in care packages to the
families of fallen soldiers, fire and police officers:

Dear Hero's Family:
They say that heroes are most often ordinary people, who do
extraordinary things in a moment of truth. In the Revolutionary War,
1776, Nathan Hale, was an ordinary person simply doing his duty. As
enemies tried to shamefully silence him in death, his heroic voice
rang out for all time, "I only regret that I have but one life to lose
for my country." He was honorable in a situation he wished to avoid,
and as a result, he
will forever inspire and sustain our nation.
Your loved one is no different.
Honorable in a situation they wished to avoid, they inspire and
sustain our nation and join the distinguish legacy of heroes.. Nathan
Hale never knew his impact, and we may never know the full impact of
your loved one's inspiration. But your loved one's greatness will go
on and on. Nathan Hale never planned to be a hero and his family never
planned for him to be a hero. But in a moment of truth he gave all,
but not in vain. Your loved one is no different.
In November of 1863, during the Civil War, President Abraham Lincoln
faced the daunting task of comforting 53,000 aching families who,
within three days, had a common bond. The words he spoke, though 139
years ago, are no less applicable today: "...from these honored dead
we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the
last full measure of devotion...we here highly resolve that these dead
shall not have died in vain; that this nation shall have a new birth
of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for
the people, shall not perish from the earth." The fight for freedom
and safety never ends.
We wish we could take away your sorrow. During the step by step
healing that comes in its own way and in its own time, please know
that there are those who care about you. The following is a synopsis
of excerpts from expressions written on our open web site. These
expressions come from the very elderly to the very young, from Florida
to Oregon, Ohio to Arizona, Washington, D.C. and even beyond the USA:
"May you know that you are not alone….I cannot tell you how sad I am
for your loss….I have cried and prayed for you….You are not
forgotten….We lost a son and have an inkling of the pain and mourning
but the unity and spirit of this country [gives] us great hope….I will
never forget those who [have] died….[Heroes] have made our country
stronger....Thank you for the courage and strength you have shown
through your great sacrifice….You have inspired and strengthened a
nation, and in turn, we support you….Our family takes one day at a
time, appreciates the simplest pleasures in life, knows the miracle of
a precious child, and hopes that every day, in our small way, we can
make a difference in the world to honor those you loved and lost, who
are never forgotten by you or by us….God Bless America….We will never
fail….We will never fall."
We cannot change the past but we can shape the future. We can build a
Living Monument of Good to every hero of this, and every, generation
through kindness, decency, integrity, and unselfishness. And in these
daily, noble acts we honor fallen heroes and strengthen the causes for
which they gave their lives.
But the fallen are not the only ones in whom we honor. In your own way
you are also heroes. You have borne the unbearable and you will rise
victorious. You are appreciated, and you inspire. You never wanted to
be in this position but, like the heroes of the past, you are ordinary
people doing extraordinary things. May God bless you.
Sincerely,
One-United Charity, Inc.
…And persons all over the United States and beyond.
PS Enclosed is a gift that may be especially significant to you.
